David Wells is an Austin, TX-based Director of Photography. His visual style stems from a mix of his architectural background, creating symmetrical and perspective-based framing, and his run-and-gun sports documentary roots that formed his swift and intentional decision-making. David currently works primarily on commercial, narrative, and music videos.
Being a featured artist for Tokina is a full circle moment for me. On my first large scale commercial project, I used the Vista primes as my lens of choice. That started a long standing relationship with the lenses. I dubbed them the “signature prime killers.” I could get the same look with these lenses that everyone was raving about with Arri Signature primes at a much more efficient cost for most sets. That pretty much started the lenses being on most of my commercial sets. They are still my spherical lens of choice.
